[A tinny man's voice gives what is clearly a default answer machine message. Vira-Lorr is still figuring the phone out it seems.]

[She went to grab the bowl and a rolling pin because of course they were going to need that. She looked up at Makoto with a pleased look in her eyes. Her eyebrow raised very slightly.]

Do promise to be careful for me, Makoto. You're very strong and with the skates you could pose a good threat, but ... the monsters in October could be quite dangerous. If you need or want backup? I'm more than willing to give it.

[As she started setting tools out, she leaned there and smiled over at her.]

But you should have more than enough strength for some of them. I just don't want you to be at risk, in case something requires a magical touch.

[Oh, how little she knew.]

[There is was again, the ominous threat of October. She kind of wished it would hurry up and get here just so people didn't keep talking and warning them about it. Put as she set down all the ingredients and grabbed her apron putting it on she smiled.]

I promise that I'll be safe. I won't take onmore than I can handle. And if I get in trouble, I'll call. But remember that you can call me too if you need help.

[She would do everything she could to help.]

I promise. Sometimes a magus does need physical backup after all, and as I said, you're quite strong.

[Be careful what you wish for there, Makoto. It'd be along very soon as is. Vira-Lorr, carefully, pitched her voice so there was no sound of condescension in the promise to call. She even decided then and there that she would, if she could find threats that seemed within Makoto's abilities from what she'd seen already with the skates on. there were people in FEAR who wanted her to avoid the front lines, and helping Makoto kill the more 'stock' monsters would probably appease some of them.

But she didn't dare ask her to join in facing something like Roderic or the Moon Presence. Not without a spirit guide or serious power to back her up. She was strong, but she was also a human without any gifts beyond her fists and pluck, right? She didn't want her hurt or worse.]

But I don't want to talk about the dangers coming today, unless you do. I want to spend time with you. Making cookies. I know it's a little selfish of me, but I like having time where we're not fearing for our lives, and I want to take advantage while I have the chance.

[thunderingcourage]

[Tying the apron she spun around to the fridge and grabbed the eggs and butter. She still had a little milk left too, but they wouldn't need it.]

I don't really want to think about it yet. You just woke up so we should just enjoy tonight and celebrate that you have your smell and taste back.

Besides this way I get to know what you really think about my cooking.

[onerthes]

Yes. Tonight we're celebrating other things. My freedom and your skills that do not involve kicking a little butt. [She winked.] You're going to show all of your skills before our time in this town is done, mark my words. It'll be a fun little journey.

[She made an easy motion towards the supplies and took an apron of her own to tie it around her waist. No need to get flower on the outfit, mmm?]

[Laughing Makoto did realize just how much she'd time she'd been spending with Vira-Lorr. They'd already been skating, had talked about dream dates, and everything else. It hardly seemed like it had only been a short time.]

Maybe I'll pick up a few new ones too.

[onerthes]

[They had, admittedly, spent a fair bit of time together since she'd arrived. But... when you had an interest, that was kind of how it happened at times.]

I'm not above teaching you a few of the tricks I've learned, here or at home. I like to think that I have some good wisdom.

[Hangover cures and massage tricks do not count as age-old wisdom, Vira-Lorr. They absolutely fucking do not count. Admittedly, she had several other tricks up her sleeve, but still. The point stood. Not everything this woman knew was helpful outside of leisurely pastime.]

I'd like that. You'll have to show me sometime.

[Grabbing the bown, she started going over how to make sugar cookies.]

I dare say, I'm curious what you'll want to learn from me.

[thankfully, as cookies went, these were among the simplest, so she didn't have to worry too much about the details. The gist and ratios were all she really needed. She meanwhile leaned in close and let her work with the rolling pin while the two of them talked.]

I imagine they'll finish about the time we're finishing dinner won't they?

I guess it depends what you want to teach me.

[Makoto mixed the ingredients in the bowl sprinkling out a little flower on the counter as well as the rolling pin. This was one place she was really in her element and everything was so great she could hardly see why everyone was so worried.]

The will be, though we'll need to wait until the other comes out before they go in. And there will be enough you can take some back home with you too.

[As they started to mix, outside there was a faint purple glow that started to form. Shadowy antlers embraced Deerington in their warm, protective shield and Vira-lorr glanced just once out into the night sky. Her eyes were briefly sad, a little distant. She knew why this was happening. She might have been the only person in all this town who would know what those lights meant.

And she didn't want to share. Her eyes turned back and she chuckled a little, noticing the faint purple thread between them. Stepping in a little closer so that it wouldn't be quite so obvious that it led between one's neck to the small of the other's back, she leaned over Makoto's shoulder and took a pinch of flower to 'boop' her on the nose, feigning a playful smile.]

I can think of a lot of fun skills to teach, but I'll keep them a surprise for now. Wouldn't want to ruin al my fun, mmm?

A wonderful way to finish the evening.

[Makoto glanced outside at the lights, they were kind of beautiful and reminded her a little of the auroras that she'd seen in past lives. It was enough of a distraction that she missed the flash of pain and sadness in Vira-Lorr's eyes, only being pulled back when she'd been booped with flour.

She was curious as to what Vira-Lorr was alluding to, but she just laughed as she wiped the flour from her nose.]

It is, though we still have a lot of evening left.

[onerthes]

[It really was pretty, wasn't it? Vira-Lorr wished she could appreciate the beauty of the sight, and hoped most would just see it as a gorgeous aurora and meteor shower. That would, really, be rather nice.

She grinned over at the girl and winked, coming back to herself some and reaching for the rolling pin while she waited for the dough to be put down on the board.]

We do, don't we? I can definite find something fun to show you, I think.

[Hey, she had a tarot deck in her things, didn't she? That would work. Perfectly nice excuse.]

[Finishing up with the mixing, she laid everything out after sprinkling a little more flour so it wouldn't stick. The used the apron to make sure her hands were clean and she checked on the caserole. Which still needed a little more time.]

I kind of wish there was a balcony now, but at least there's a pretty big window and the view's not really blocked.

[onerthes]

[She started to work on rolling it while she saw the lights out of the corner of her eye again, smirking a bit to herself. Of course it was pretty. Makoto had no reason to know what it meant. Nobody did. Why not want to enjoy the show?]

I can roll this out, so why don't you enjoy the show a little? As long as there's no harm, perhaps we could see it from the roof after dinner? Assuming it's continuing at least.

[By then, it would be at its zenith, know it or not.]

I'm not sure if we can get to the roof.

[It wasn't something that she had tried. But it didn't sound like a bad idea, and after dinner it would be perfect. She walked over to the window and looked out, trying to get a slightly better view. It was beautiful, and she wondered what was causing it.]

Has it ever done this before?

[onerthes]

It might be worth the effort. And no, this has never happened before. I've seen many strange phenomena in this place, and this is the first it has ever been quite like this.

[She watched her move, seeing the purple thread between them as the rolling pin rolled. The threads were what told her what was happening. She was sure it had to do with that, not another.]

I... think this one might be harmless. Just surreal.

It might be.

[She turned around from the window walking back over to Vira-Lorr and seeming to just become aware of the strand that seemed to be leading to her.Each time that she touched it her hand went right through, but she did following back to the other, putting her hand right where it stopped on the other.]

Umm, you're glowing a bit.

[onerthes]

[She felt the hand at the small of her back and swallowed, glancing over at Makoto and smiling, giving her a little wink.]

You're glowing too a little bit. You realize that? Apparently we're connected. I wonder what that says. [A giggle. Ok, she'd abuse it a little bit.] It doesn't seem to be harmful at least, yes?

Huh, am I?

[She had seen the thread wrap around her, but it seemed like she hadn't quite been able to figure out where it went since it vanished, almost like trying to see the end of a rainbow.]

And of course, we're connected, we're friends.

[onerthes]

[As she set the cookies on the sheet, she ran her fingers over the purple line, smiling to herself and thinking a little bit about it. They trailed up, towards the back of her neck where she'd seen the tattoo, just out of sight.]

They connect our tattoos, so I imagine it is very much something like that. Probably a gentle reminder that we have each other. I don't feel anything right now...

[Other than an urge to talk about certain things she was forcibly shelving. No. No death talk, thank you. but she felt the urge, definitely.]

[Ah, Makoto actually hadn't seen her tattoo yet and no one had mentioned it since her hair generally did a pretty good job of hiding it. Reaching up her hand brushed against Vira-Lorr's over where the tattoo was. Now that she'd been made aware of it she could feel a bit of the energy there.]

Having a reminder is good, but everyone here has been so great, I don't see how anyone would question it.

[onerthes]

[Her fingers lingered for a moment, running by the tattoo at the base of her hairline and then over the digits that drew in close to allow her to touch the back of Makoto's hand. There was an easy quality to her smile and her eyes twinkled a little.]

I think most of them try to be, yes. And certainly, I should hope nobody would question that I think of you as a friend.

[Makoto would have to get a handheld mirror so she'd be able to see what it looked like laster, curious now as to just what it looked like. Looking towards the other, Makoto returned the grin, thankful for the company and certainly not question how good of a friend she had.]

I'm glad that you're back, and that we've had the chance to get to know each other and become friends.

[Turning the attention back to the dough and the cookies, Makoto worked next to Vira-Lorr, almost having to reach over her with the tight space of the kitchenette and dining area.]

[Vira-Lorr was a naturally very physical person when it came to contact, so the close quarters didn't seem to bother her. She'd lean back into a touch here and there, grin as she breathed in the smell of the casserole cooking, shifting to keep herself close while the cookies were put out and readied.]

I'm... very glad to be back, actually. And the opportunity to get to know you better and get close has been good. It's all been very good to me.

It smells like dinner's almost ready, doesn't it?
