It's Ruby. Ruby Rose.

[ Not that Ange thinks there are other Rubys in Deerington, but you never know. ]

If you know her, I'm sure you'll understand what I mean. That girl is so friendly with everyone, how am I supposed to figure out in what way she meant this?

The custom weapons maker? Oh, I know her. She's a very energetic young woman. No, I could easiy see how you'd be confused with that one and unsure where you stood. On the one hand she does seem lie the sort of person who would take a friend out on a date. On the other, I don't see any reason why this wouldn't be a date date.

I will say one thing, with that one. You're in luck. If you want the answer, just ask her if it's a date date or a friend's date. I'm pretty sure she'll both understand, and possibly even appreciate a little directness. She strikes me as being a touch blunt at times, so explicit clarity doesn't hurt. She's not a very subtle girl, so there's no need to beat around the bush.

Of course, if she tells you "Date Date" I iimagine you're still going to be very unsure, since you're about to go on your first, yes?

I can't believe you're just telling me to ask her.

I mean, if I could just ask her, I wouldn't be texting you right now!!!

It'd be so dumb! Imagine receiving a text like that! What if she just meant it as a friend date, and then I'm coming in asking something like that, making everything super awkward!!!

[ Enjoy those rapidfire texts of Ange's stream of consciousness, Vira-Lorr. At least she now seems to realise how dumb that text streak must have looked, so she simmers down a bit again. ]

Yeah, it's my first date. Never even thought about going on one before. Ever.

[She was laughing her ass off by now. Regardless of what situation she was in right this instant, this was too priceless. It took her worries away for a minute. That did mean the reply took a second however. At last Ange didn't have to hear her laughing!]

Ok, sorry. Had to take care of something.

So. I only know Ruby a little, but she's a bit the 'heart on her sleeve' sort. She doesn't conceal much. She seems to be an emotionally naive, bubbly, warm, affectionate girl who is almost guileless in an innocent kind of way, but far too energetic to be around for me. She can be exhausting.

In her case? I don't think it would be "too awkward" to just ask. Be casual. say it like this. 'I'm picking out what to wear for our date. I just wanted to be sure. Is this a friend date, or a date date?'

See, if you put it that way? You're implying that you'll dress pretty for her if it's a date date, and you're thinking about making the experience special for her, so she'd feel good. And if it's a friend date, you sound like you're casually making sure you know how to dress and what the occasion is.

With her, the worst risk might be if she replied with "You know, I hadn't decided. Do you want it to be a date date?" I could see you flailing your arms if she said that. so, maybe you need to answer this for yourself. If she asked you if you wanted it to be a date date?

Would you be ok with her being your first kiss?

[ Do you know how much panic those moments of silence brought her, Vira-Lorr. Do you. Ange has been rolling around on her bed like crazy, just entirely restless because of this whole dumb situation. How is she supposed to deal.

Thankfully the long answer makes up for the pause though, causing Ange to not complain about it. ]

In fact, she's already about ready to flail at the last part. How is she supposed to wrap her mind around the thought. But she's really trying to clear her mind here and think about it. Even though it's hard. ]

[ It being her first kiss. Ange doesn't find herself instinctively disliking the thought, so?! ]

Well, that sounds like quite the answer right there. You aren't asking for more than to see if you like it, and if she was curious, so are you.

So, just ask her. Use a text so you feel more comfortable.
It's not the height of romance, but I don't know that getting too romantic here is a great idea. It might make you more nervous, and I suspect you should try to be as calm, and at ease, as you can be.

You'll tell me how this date goes, yes? I promise not to ask Ruby about it or let anyone know I know. I can keep a secret or two. Occasionally.

I think it's a little too early to worry about me getting too romantic.

[ Rather than the problem being too much romance, Ange is worried about too little romance being the issue here. Or her not being able to figure out what romance is?! She certainly still doesn't feel any better equipped on that front over here. Does she like Ruby? How can she tell if what she feels about the other girl is liking her? ]

But why do you want to know how it'll go? It'll just be awkward to talk about if it goes badly. And I'm worried that's how it's going to end up at this rate. [ Because she has absolutely zero experience. It's not a good starting point. ]

Ange, anyone dating you needs to learn to be patient with how you slowly work your way into any sort of emotions. I don't think anyone needs to worry about you being too romantic. And if she asked you out? I have a feeling she knows that. She's not stupid after all.

[There might be people out there who'd question that, but Vira-Lorr hadn't really ever found Ruby to be dense. Just very ... very... VERY young at times. And therefore like a bull in a china shop.]

Because I enjoy this sort of chat, believe it or not? And I think we both know it will be awkward. But that's ok. You're allowed to be awkward. And, as long as you get to be happy too? That's a win in my book.

[ Happy, huh. Who knows if she'll be happy. Right now she mostly just feels panicked, but maybe that is since it's still so soon after that realisation she's had. ]

I promise not to make fun. I somehow doubt it will be quite the disaster you fear though. She seems like a nice young woman.

I know. Ruby can be pushy at times, but I know she's not going to do anything to actively hurt me. [ Ange is pretty sure Ruby could never do that. ]

No, she would absolutely not do that. What little I've seen leads me to believe she'd never do anything like that. It'll be fine.

Try not to worry too much on the date. I know that might be a bit to handle, because worries bubble up easily. But just try to enjoy your time with her?

I can't believe you know me this well and still believe me capable of enjoying anything.

[ Okay, okay, Ange knows she's not that bad. And she's aware that Vira-Lorr knows it too, but it's easier to just make fun of herself in that deadpan way. It's easier to fall back on. ]

I know that you will have a little trouble settling and believing something nice is happening to you. So I know that this might not be easy for you, but think of it this way? It is more my hope that you would be able to have a wonderful date.

And if she kissed you? That you were able to stop being nervous just long enough to relax into it and enjoy yourself.

[ This is awful.

Because it's this text that makes her realise even more just how well Vira-Lorr's got her figured out. Ange reads it over and over, realising more with each subsequent reading just how spot on that is. UGH. Is she that easy to read? It feels kind of embarrassing... ]

You're not starting to write some sort of romance novel about me and Ruby, are you? [ Considering what that last line sounded like! ]

No romance novels about you, promise. I have quite enough of that in my own life to call on, I should think. This is just us taking time to be supportive of each other as friends.

[Besides, she was a crappy writer, so it'd never happen thankfully. Still, it had helped a lot that she'd had to deal with a few tsunderes in this town, and at least one Tsun Tsun of the highest order.]

Right. Supportive.

[ Though not embarrassing, hopefully. Ange is willing to trust Vira-Lorr to not get too embarrassing about it though, hence why she's willing to share all of this in the first place. ]

I'll let you know how it all went once it's over. Valentine's Day is still quite a while off, after all.
