[A tinny man's voice gives what is clearly a default answer machine message. Vira-Lorr is still figuring the phone out it seems.] "Hello, we are not available now. Please leave your name and phone number after the beep. We will return your call." *Beep*
I'd be happy to. They're pretty quick and easy to make if you prepare most of it ahead of time.
[Settling in, Makoto had already put a little of the caserole on each of their plates, along with a roll. Everything was ready. Nodding when the asked about starting, she gave one quick thing before she took her first bite.]
Itadakimasu.
[She wasn't really all that spiritual or anything but it was something that had been ingrained since she was young. And it was always good to be thankful for what you had.]
[She took a bite, and it was pretty obvious that she was in heaven. It had nothing to do with how good it was, though it was a decent casserole to be certain. It was just so nice to feel normal. All that remained, of course, was her head. However, having a sense of taste that wasn't destroyed was a massive improvement. her senses finally felt normal again.]
It's delicious, Makoto! [A glance to the window and she wondered. a night? A week? A month? Forever? she hoped for a night only.] I don't know that they will last for too long... so I suppose we should enjoy them while they last, yes?
[She had no worries about how it tasted, even as she took her own bite. But it was always nice to hear someone compliment the food that she had made. And she couldn't imagine how it would be after not being able to taste anything for so long.]
We should then. I wonder if the stairs go all the way up to the roof. I have an extra blanket that we take up to sit on and watch them.
[Vira-Lorr was making sure to take her time with the food, so that she wasn't just plowing into it. The lack of a need for the anti-nausea meds really helped a lot, helped make things feel a lot less forced in her life. Things were finally... mostly looking up, if she politely ignored the fact that the world seemed to have gone crazy in the last week.]
I was thinking of something like that. If we could sit out on the roof, I bet we'd get the best view of them. And if they're not causing any harm, then why not enjoy them while they last?
[The last two weeks had been a lot to adjust to, but Makoto was settling in nicely. Each day seemed to have some little pleasant surprise. Maybe the lights were supposed to be something to give them a nice memory of being together and all connected with what was going to be coming soon.]
Exactly. Just enjoy them and have a great memory for later.
One of the secrets I find around here is being able to turn even the most unpleasant things into a bit of a positive. And when there's something positive? Just focus on the best of it. Makes it easier at times.
[Mind you, finding that in the middle of October was a lot more difficult than it was in other times of year. But there were ways. She took a sip of the melon wine. nice and smooth and light, perhaps just a bit sweet.]
[That was a pretty optimistic view of things. But it seemed like it could be pretty helpful.]
I guess most of them would be times that I was with friends. There was a dance one time where Ami noticed I didn't have anyone to dance with, so she came over and asked me. And plenty of times when Rei has asked for help or we've gone shopping.
[Everything that she could think involved one of the other four in some way.]
[So much of her happiest moments revolved around that close set of friends, didn't they? She could feel that in her a little bit, and it made her smile as she ate, nodding occasionally. They were simple things, but simple things could be truly pleasant memories.
And deep down, she remembered then that Makoto's parents had passed away. She started to wonder if maybe some of her loneliness came from it, the joy of people being close. Oh, right, she was being asked something? Right? Oh, of course, she'd asked the same thing. That was easy.]
Some of my most wonderful memories were a little bittersweet, yet still times of great joy. They were weddings, like the one I just saw. I had the joy and privilege to live in the company of one family for five generations and I saw all five of them wed. Leonhardt, Ladius, Thoma, Duran and now Rex. [It killed her a little that she hadn't seen Rex's wedding yet in reality.]
The joy and hope that came every time, and every day that we saw their son born... Dyshana's child will be a hope for a new future for that family.
[Hearing about weddings made Makoto all the more excited for the day that she would get to attend Usagi and Mamoru's wedding and see it. It was bound to be an amazing even with beautiful decorations. She was a little sad that Vira-Lorr's moments always seemed to be centered on other people, Makoto wondered if it was because she just enjoyed others happiness or if it was because she felt as if she was just watching.]
What about you though? Have you been married, is there someone special?
[It was probably a bit sudden, but now Makoto was curious about the people in Vira-Lorr's life. She'd never really asked much before.]
[She wasn't wrong. Vira-Lorr had spent a lot of her most joyous occasions vicariously through others' lives. She was a bit of a hedonist by her nature. However, her happiest moments had always been seeing the joy people took as they settled down into happy and bliss in love. It had had an effect on her, watching four generations marry and bring life into the world, yearning for that same joy or some piece of it.
She smiled as she set her fork down.]
Oh no. I've never been married, and though I've tried to find love in my life let's just say that the path has been a rocky one from time to time. I seem to have a gift for finding a person special enough that they were already in another's heart, and that that person was someone they loved in turn.
And in the end, I don't think I could have lived with myself knowing I broke up people actually in love with each other.
[Oh that was a split little hair right there. When she'd gone after Max, he'd found out real fast that she and Chloe were both interested. But Max hadn't quite committed to it yet. Or at least, she'd never told her, not until New Years. But, like she said, she'd backed down when she knew they were in love with each other, just taking a long time to get there.
Really, she wouldn't want to break up happy lovers ever, but she still definitely had a knack for falling for people whose hearts were spoken for.]
[Makoto could sympathize with that. It was kind of concerning and sad though that even with hundreds of years that Vira-Lorr hadn't been able to find someone special. It made her wonder whether or not she would. Shaking off those thoughts though, they managed to finish their meal and small talk just in time for the cookies to be finished. As Makoto put them into a small box and grabbed a pair of less fragile glasses for the wine she directed Vira-Loor to grab one of the blankets from the bed.]
Just grab the one that's on top, it's pretty think and should have a lot o padding if it's rough.
[As she entered the room she'd see it was decorated with just as many plants, and neatly folded next to the bed was a stripped fabric that looked like a onesie almost.]
Or girlfriend. [She winked.] I've lost to a few girls in my time too, and... if I wasn't clear my heart isn't really limited by things like gender or in most case species. The heart wants what it wants, whatever the form.
[As they finished, she helped to clean up and went to collect the blanket that Makoto had suggested, putting it up and over one of her arms before meeting her in the middle of the entry-way and grinning.]
I'm assuming we're still not braving the elevator tonight, yes?
We can try if you want, I haven't heard anyone screaming the last few days.
[Which was usually the sign that it was on the fritz and racing and down with no regard for what someone actually pushed. Personally though she would still prefer to take the stairs, even if it would be a bit of exercise. Grabbing what was left of the wine along with the cookies she rejoined Vira-Lorr as they started heading out.]
But it's great that you just follow your heart to whatever it wants.
Let's just take the stairs. We could use the exercise, I'm sure.
[She snickered. No, she didn't want to take the chance here. Being trapped in an elevator all night with Makoto didn't sound awful. Screaming as an elevator tried to kill them sounded a lot less pleasant. She slid out and started towards the stair, sighing and smiling.]
I've learned that my heart can be just a touch ... yearning. I temper it now, to make sure that I know what it is I want, to be certain that it is mine to ask. I'm... a little tired of disappointment, so I don't want to assume anymore.
But if I find something I truly want, I hope to be free to lay my claim one day.
[Luckily it was only a few flights since the buildings weren't all that tall. Makoto didn't have a problem at all with them, occasionally going sideways, or backwards when the leveled out and changed direction each floor so that they could keep talking.]
What do you look for in someone then? Maybe I can help you find them.
And since everyone has one of those profiles, we might even be able to see whether they're already taken or not.
[she giggled a little, knowing deep down that Makoto was almost certainly not going to catch on to the hints she was about to drop in her lap as they walked up the steps.]
I should think a free spirit of some sort. Someone with a passionate heart, one that yearns for adventure and romance all at once. They'd best be brave. I've lived a life without peace for a hundred years, after all, and I should think it hard to stop playing the hero no matter how much risk I get into.
[Said the woman who had caused this fireworks display...]
They don't need to be as strong as me, but I want to hope that they can keep up, and to love me without tying me down. I want to be able to love them with both our hearts unchained by fears and jealousies. Love should not live where envy breeds, mmm?
[Huh, that sounded a lot like Minako. Makoto remembered that Vira had mentioned before about being friends with her. Wait, did that mean that maybe it had been like Rei and Gwen? She seems to take a moment to imagine it, almost tripping backwards but managing to catch herself and not drop the glasses or bottle. Oops.]
That really sounds like someone great. You know Mina-chan is really brave and pretty strong. And she wants to be an idol so she's not the type of get jealous either.
I... remember Minako yes. Minako was incredibly brave, yes.
[She remembered watching a whip of golden light, hearts streaming out from her hand as she lashed at the Moon Presence. How could they have known it was a maddened state of Cynthia? Yet she was still alive, or as alive as she could be. There was nevrtheless a fondness there.
Admittedly? She had woken up right about the moment she'd asked her out, and at this point Vira's eyes were starting to see a lot of what she assumed were the same qualities in Makoto.]
You shouldn't sell yourself short you know. You seem quite brave considering this place, and you're strong to boot. [A wink.] You miss your friend don't you?
So someone like Mina-chan is who you'd be interested in?
[She was starting to get the picture now. Not that Makoto could blame her, Minako was beautiful and strong, she was able to take charge when she needed to, not to mention that she knew everything there was about romance and love. After all she was Venus and fought for Love and Beauty.]
Yeah I'm pretty strong, but I don't know about everything else. And I guess I do kind of miss her, as well as Ami. But I'm sure that Usagi misses them more, so I have to be strong for her.
[She paused at the base of the last flight of steps. There was a moment and a frown, and she swallowed a little, her eyes closed.]
Maybe someone a little like her, but I don't think Minako is the right choice or me, for where I am in my life. I want a free spirit, but... [She was a little too free? Vira-Lorr honestly didn't think Minako was ready to settle from the little they'd talked of such things.] I think I might have trouble not being jealous around her.
But there are pieces of her that are very attractive yes. Somebody would be lucky to date her, yes.
[She looked up at her.] You sound like your world revolves around your friends, Makoto. Why would you say she misses them more? I imagine you miss each other equally to be apart.
[Hmm, well that certainly made things abit more difficult. Someone she'd like, who wouldn't be jealous, but at the same time would make Vira-Lorr jealous.]
Anyone would be lucky if they were able to catch Mina-chan.
True, but Usagi is [How could she explain this without giving away all of their secret.] Usagi seems like she's a lot more connected to all of us, and we're all kind of drawn to her. Plus Usagi has never really been on her own before. So it's a lot harder for her.
[Unbeknownst to Makoto, all it really meant was that she wanted someone ready to be steady, which she wasn't sure Minako had been. Ah, but she also didn't want to sound like she was criticizing Minako either. After all, she wanted her to be free too.]
We can certainly agree on that. She's a very attractive and energetic person. I remember that all too well from our brief time here.
[She started to follow up and to the roof access. Thankfully there was one, so that they could enjoy the light show as it neared its zenith. It would be a nice chance to spend time alone.]
I think I understand. And you're a very independent woman yourself. Which is a good trait, but it can also mean you're better able to cope apart from the friends you love, even if you wish to be with them again.
[She tried thinking of who else there might be. Haruka maybe? But she was pretty sure that Haruka would wind up making anyone jealous, even Chibi-usa had been worried when Usagi and Haruka kissed afraid that she'd be stolen away from Mamoru. Rei was already in a relationship, Ami wasn't the kind to really look for one. She was pretty sure that Atsushi really liked Usagi, even if they weren't admitting it.]
You'd probably get along well with Setsuna-san, I don't think I've ever seen her get jealous though she doesn't really seem like the adventurous type.
[Finally they'd made it. Makoto checked to make sure that they wouldn't be locked out, and proper the door open just to be on the safe side as well.]
Well I've lived alone for awhile, so I'm used to it. And I do miss them and like to be around friends, but I'm alright on my own too.
[Maaan, she would have loved to meet Haruka, but as soon as she learned about Michiru, she would never have been able to think of that. Ah, but she had her own interest at this point, and she'd get around to showing her, she was certain.]
She's a wonderful woman. She reminds me a lot of a friend of mine who's woen up, Moira. Both of them are deeply professional souls with their minds in their studies. I think she's quite adventurous, but perhap not in this way.
[She started to spread the blanket down settling herself onto it in the center and turning around to pat the spot right behind her. Nothing wrong with cuddling close, right?]
I'm glad too, I'm not sure what I would have done without them.
[She was sure that she would have been fine, but the chances were she wouldn't have met a lot of the people that she has. And she probably would have been a lot more secluded trying to figure everything out. But she takes a seat next to Vira, not having any problem at all with the closeness of it.]
