[A tinny man's voice gives what is clearly a default answer machine message. Vira-Lorr is still figuring the phone out it seems.] "Hello, we are not available now. Please leave your name and phone number after the beep. We will return your call." *Beep*
Once upon a time, Julia was an innocent infant who knew not what she did. One look in the madness of Mother Superior tells a truth. She hasn't truly been a child for a long time. And the longer she keeps us here, the harder it is to see her as merely a waif in need of rescuing. I don't wish her harm... but I do not trust her as I once did.
[She was still trying to find a way to 'spare' them all for the moment. She felt like it might matter. Especially after Superior's words... but this was about Max.]
Funny you mention photography. That's how we met this time. I will ... try to be patient. One step at a time. Hopefully it will come back sooner, not later.
[The talk of the Doctor was serious, but there was also very little that they could do without continuing the search in the dead of winter. For now it had to wait. Instead, she listened to the story of the bear and the cars. After a moment, she was chuckling and grinning from ear to ear, because... honestly?]
It seems that bear was very concerned about the manners of the people driving on the road, wasn't it?
We shall see, but I will hope for the best. There's often a protective spirit during times like these after all... so we can hope a little. Better them than the hunters from last year.
[She smirked as she watched him work on the smoothie.]
[He switches off the blender, pouring out some of the contents into a bowl and looking for a storage container for the rest.]
Some to lure him with, some for later, if he's still hungry.
Makes sense that some guardian critters would show up this time of year, to help defend us from whatever comes out of the dark. Bit of a breather from the usual stuff.
Hunters, eh? Think I read about those in the Dogkeeper's notes. Sounded like tough customers.
mmhmm They were skilled at what they did. That did not make them prudent in terms of knowing how to respond to threats that were ... better handled with finesse or empathy.
Hopefully the bears have better discernment, or less reason to worry about that detail.
[Maul has put all his sneaky warrior-ninja skills to good use, breaking into people's houses in the early hours of the morning, and leaving them their gifts in spots where he's sure they'll find them, with a tag addressed to them from Maul. He doesn't quite realize this gesture could be taken the wrong way given this is Deerington and all, but it's the thought that counts.
Vira-Lorr gets two gifts from Maul. One is a vibroblade knife from Maul's home galaxy as he figures there's no such thing as too many weapons, especially given all the times Vira-Lorr has died by now. The other is incense plus an incense holder he thought she would greatly enjoy.]
Sound like really tough customers and maybe not the kind I'd like to have messed with.
[He goes for the greatcoat, shrugging it on and taking up the bowl.]
...Funny, when I got here in July, we had those weird black and white bears that were rounding up people and judging 'em for God knows what. Now we got armored polar bears that seem to care we stay out of harm.
[While Reaper isn't the gift type, he knew that Vira had had a hard year. Also, the month of December was messing with him, so he needed something to occupy his time as a way of distraction and killing things in the snow storm didn't always do the trick.
So, he was gifting people he considered himself close to with food. After all, once it was gone, he could deny it ever happening.
Vira was left a dessert that he personally thought would at least make her smile. In her fridge, she would find a better than sex pie covered for freshness. There was a note attached to it in his rather neat hand writing that read:
Continue to take a relationship break with this. It's called "Better than Sex". You're welcome.
[A gift card to one of the local restaurants of similar value ended up at his house the next day. Vira-Lorr had little love for the holiday, but plenty for Maul. On Christmas, she sent a text message.]
I've sent you something a touch less practical, friend. But thank you. The incense holder is quite cute. The knife? That I am almost certain can be put to good use. Novel little invention. From your world, I take it?
Ah yes. Monokuma or whatever his name was, and his little robots. [She snarled.] I still have a great deal of trouble forgiving Superior for summoning him. These, I suspect, are much more natural in appearance than his ...
Get your ass over here, kid. We're eating this together, do you hear me? Do you have any idea how many calories this whole thing has?
Also, it's a good time for me to give you the gift I have for you. I'm almost certain you will appreciate it.
[Unlike most, she had an actual gift for him, because she knew exactly what to buy Reaper. A gun. A better gun than the ones you could get at Hart Mart.]
(OOC: Ice, Fire, Electric, "Wind" or "Earth"? Pick an energy. ^.~)
You calling me 'kid' feels offensive, despite the fact I know that you're way older than I am. And you could do with extra calories, and you can share it with all of your friends. Don't you have some kind of book club thing?
I will have one slice, and the rest is yours to distribute.
A gift, hmm? That's more thoughtful than I deserve.
[It was strange thinking of the number of people apparently getting him gifts this year. He hated Christmas, yet he had given more and would likely receive more than he had in years.]
[OOC: Ooooo, that's a tough one. My instinct is ice, but I think for this I'm going to go with Earth for fun!]
Hehe, allow me to enjoy my little teases, old friend. And yes, we can keep it to a slice. I'm sure the menagerie will consume what I don't. It is like a zoo here.
Either way, come on over. It's just the two of us for now.
[She was going to relax in the kitchen and wait for him to make his presence known with a rather unique gun just for him.]
If anything cemented my decision about where I'm takin' a stand in this town, that was it. Been through a kangaroo court or two in my time. [And from the hard look in his eye, it's clear he wishes he could have done more to end that round.]
Maybe Sodder's evening up the score for Christmas. Maybe she's challenging Grandma.
[A glace at the bowl.]
Right now, I gotta family matter of my own to take care of. Hope I ain't out there too long. [His tone might be light, but that hard look is still in his eye. Understandable, considering just what caused that family trouble to begin with.]
It is. I got a few from the Summoning Stones to pass out to friends. Vibroblades are powerful weapons where I am from. They hum with energy and can even become white-hot when used repeatedly in a single bout.
Of course. You're one of the few I will allow such. I will be your 'younging'. Very well, I will agree to a slice.
Yes, yes, you're such a nag. I will be there within half an hour.
[Reaper had been her house often enough that he had no problem finding his way there and even showing himself inside. He had brought Olivia because she and Vira's idiot dog always liked to play with each other and it would be good to keep them occupied.
He found her in the kitchen and tilted his head when he saw her there with a gun of all things.]
[Baying and barking were already moving into the back as he settled himself down. Olivia and Susan would be very effective at keeping the idiot calm. The rest of the menagerie seemed content to linger in other parts of the home. She glanced back, making sure they finally had a moment of piece while she set out coffee and slices of pie.]
This? This would be a gift, Reaper dear... I'm not one for wrapping paper. It is called a Saiga. We craft them for the troops. Most would carry a platinum or mithril firearm along with one of these, charged with one type of energy or another. Saiga fires bullets charged with terran energy.
It nearly decided it for me as well. [She growled.] But I think you know exactly why in my case. I'm trying to keep an even keel about it, but every night I sleep, I remember. It's hard.
But let's hope there is little evening of the score. We're likely to get mired in that. That said, you go deal with that family matter. I don't want to keep you from it.
Indeed. Many use it beyond combat, for more mundane purposes when necessary.
There is an ultrasonic vibration generator within the hilt that causes the blade to vibrate at high speeds. Even a small blow at that speed will cause devastating injury.
I guess at least that’s something. I’ve seen how fucking disturbed and violent kids can be, I don’t cut her slack just because she’s been like this since she was a baby.
[ She’s also seen how adults have manipulated violent kids, but that part seems to matter less to her when it’s her friends dying. ]
You did? [ Chloe can’t actually stop herself from sounding slightly hopeful; Max hasn’t done photography much at all in the two years they’d had together. It was hard to see when she’d known she loved it so much and knowing she could do it again, even if it meant her memories being stolen...
She sighs. ]
I missed her photos. I hope if she does get them back, her memories don’t take that from her again.
She used to do them some when she was here before. I... uh... left her a photo she'd taken when she was here. To help her. I honestly don't think she's ready to trust me.
[She rubbed at her head and sighed softly.]
It feels horrible, surreal, confusing as hell... It's torture in its own way.
If a weapon is not supremely powerful, the best ones have more than one use. And I see. The concept makes sense. If it moves at a high enough rate of speed, it will build up intense heat won't it?
[It was a good method to keep many of Vira's pets occupied, especially that Susan who definitely wasn't a normal chicken. No matter, Vira was safe (ish) for the time being with him, and he approached the weapon on the table with curiosity.
It was a nice looking weapon, odd compared to things he had wielded before. He ran a claw over it at first and then picked it up when she confirmed it was his. Nice balance and it definitely wasn't as heavy as his own shotguns which were honestly excessive.]
Terran? As in, I will be firing rock bullets? [Wouldn't that just be amazing?] I appreciate such generosity. [That was a bit difficult to say, but Vira had earned it putting up with him so long.]
